Ocean

Our ocean and coastlines around the world are made up of a mosaic of several ecosystems, many of which can be found in the Indian Ocean. This beautiful coastline offers coral reefs, mangrove forests, seagrass and beautiful white sandy beaches. Which in turn attracts tourists from all over the world. This heavily impacts the wildlife and the communities that rely on these ecosystems, including wild sea turtles through to the giant whale sharks and humpback whales. Valor to Virtue will be working closely with organisations along the coast to help protect this critical resource, protecting turtle nesting sites, working with communities and exploring alternative livelihoods to reduce the pressures of overfishing and other damaging behaviors. Valor to Virtue is currently under contract to help preserve 4 stretches of beach to preserve turtle nesting, this covers approximately 1300ft of beach.

Land

Valor to Virtue works closely with property owners to ensure that land is used sustainably, ensuring that both humans and wildlife can share live in harmony. Plans are already underway to ‘rewild’ land along Kenya’s coastline, bringing back the declining coastal forests of Kenya, and protecting the unique fauna that lives there. Valor to Virtue approach is multi-dimensional to ensure that it is long-lasting and impactful. This is achieved through;

  • Collaborations with other like-minded NGO’s;
  • Training of staff and individuals on the importance of indigenous wildlife,
  • Community engagement and empowerment
  • Supporting alternative livelihoods, conservation education and ‘rewilding’ projects on private land.
