Growing up in Kawangware
Dindi grew up with parents who worked hard but earned barely enough to feed the family. By the age of ten he and his older brother were helping their mother clean houses; by twelve they were labouring on building sites to bring in extra cash. The family later moved to the countryside, where the brothers built a grass-thatched house and worked on other people's farms while continuing their schooling.
Top of his class, without the fees to prove it
Talent was never the problem — Dindi was ranked among the top students in his county. Money was. When his father could only afford secondary school fees for one son, Dindi stepped aside for his brother, re-sat his exams, and studied from borrowed notebooks. He still came top of his class, and in 2016 his results earned him a place to study Health Science. The question was how to pay for it.
His father, working as a security guard, had heard about Valor to Virtue. In December 2017 we committed to covering Dindi's fees, accommodation, living expenses and a laptop, and in 2018 we began funding his studies — he returned to university prepared, motivated and no longer lost. He continues his studies today, supporting several younger siblings while building toward a future in medicine.
